Little Reviewer

BOOK ZONE'S LITTLE REVIEWER TEAM

Your child already has something to say about books.

Do they ask for the same story every night? Laugh before you reach their favorite part? Point to a picture, question a character's choice, or tell you exactly why a book wasn't for them?

Those little responses matter. They're the beginning of a reader discovering their own voice—and I'd love to help you listen.

What is Little Reviewer?

Little Reviewer is Book Zone's invitation for children and their parents or guardians to explore books together and share what young readers really think. Through our Little Reviewer Team and guest reviews, selected families can contribute a child's perspective to Book Zone.

A review doesn't have to be a polished paragraph. It can begin with a drawing, a few words your child dictates, a conversation you write down, or an older reader's own short review. For babies and toddlers, it may begin with the pages they return to, the pictures they point at, and the sounds or gestures you notice.

The heart of it is simple: enjoy a book together, make room for your child's response, and let their voice lead.

Who can take part?

Parents and guardians are welcome to ask about participating with their children. Book Zone covers books for babies, toddlers, children, tweens, and teens, and our Little Reviewer guidance begins with the youngest readers. Tell me your child's age range so we can talk about an approach that fits.

Your child doesn't need to read independently or write a review alone. You can read aloud, listen, and help record what they say. Keep their words their own, and describe what you observe without putting an adult opinion in their mouth.

What might a little review include?

  • The book: its title and author.
  • The child's response: a favorite picture, character, moment, or something that didn't work for them.
  • A little explanation: “What made you laugh?” “Why did you choose that page?” or “Would you read it again?”
  • Their own way of sharing: a drawing, dictated words, or a short written review.

Honest reactions are welcome. A child doesn't have to love every book, and there's no need to coach them toward a glowing review.
